Seriously With All the Hair???

by BusyMama on February 19, 2013

Ever since I gave birth to M.T. or maybe turned 30, I have been turning into a wookiee.  Seriously – I used to be able to go a week between shaving my armpits and now within a day, it’s ‘Trouble with Tribbles’ under there.  What the hell?

Well, this post sure got off to a wonderful start.  FML…

Prior to my realization of my needing to exchange my razor for a machete in the shower, today marked my longest run so far since having a healed foot: 5 miles.  I hope you were sitting down for that number.

Being forced to start over from scratch with running has been a very humbling experience and also, one that I’m now realizing that I’m very fortunate to have had.  I’m having to repeat being a beginner runner, only this round I’m armed with prior knowledge and experience and I’m able to use all of that in my current training and it’s been really awesome so far because: I’ve had zero knee pain.  No sore lower back. No shin or arch issues, nada.  Yoga and cross training with RPM has played a huge part of that.  Speaking of yoga…

After returning from my five mile trail run this morning (no pooping in the woods today – woohoo!) I put M.T. down for a nap and logged into GaiamTV for Gwen Lawrence’s Yoga For Runners.

Even though her voice doesn’t resonate with me the same way the penis’ Rodney Yee’s or Jackie Mills’ does, I really like her Fit Body Yoga. Yoga For Runners, not so much.

Complaint #1:  I would like to be told that I need a block and a strap before I move into the pose.  Not while I’m in it.

Complaint #2:  I need some kind of music going on in the background.  Gwen’s voice by itself actually puts me on edge.

Now mind you, her workout was amazing.  She got everything from feet to those super hard to stretch IT bands, but part of the time I found my mind wandering to ways I could kick her in the crotch.  I’m still totally doing this workout once a week from now on, it just might require a pre-yoga Xanax.

Not really.

Though how amazing would that be? Right??

Post yoga lunch was a green salad with cucumbers (pitta-balancing) and red bell pepper (not so balancing but I only used a little) topped with some leftover cooked barley soup (drained the broth out) and topped with vinaigrette.  The combination of cooked and fresh was interesting and delicious and I am definitely going to be repeating this salad again!

So now your turn! Have you ever found a workout where you really didn’t care for the instructor but really liked the workout? What was it?

I’m so glad you’re running pain free! I’ve had similar experiences with online workouts- I don’t always love the instructor, but if it’s a good workout, I can deal with it.

Amazing post. You make me smile every time I check in. Every time.

And I’m so glad you had a good run. Bit by bit huh?!

I will never be able to watch Rodney Yee the same way again… Oy.

I’ll be honest…as much as I like Jillian’s 30 Day Shred, I think she’s super annoying. So I’ll do The Shred, but only with HER volume and 0, and my music or audiobook volume up high. In person, I think I have to like the instructor reasonably well to enjoy the class…it’s considered rude to tune a live person out with loud music. :)

Oh gosh, I feel the same way about Jillian Michaels. I did the 30 Day Shred and I liked the workout, but I couldn’t stand her ‘encouragement’. Same with Ripped in 30 – she comes off a little too cocky or drill instructory for me. What annoys you about JM?

Probably that she’s a bit too perky, first of all (this is a personal preference). Secondly, I really, really hate when a video instructor (any instructor, not just JM) tells me “You’re doing great!” NO. You can’t see me. I could be sitting in front of this video, eating cookies, and you’d be telling me the same thing!!! Plus, I’m quite sure that you say that to EVERYONE.

Third, I don’t always like the way she talks about Biggest Loser contestants, in a way that’s supposed to make feel good/encouraged (I have 300 lb people doing jumping jacks…You can do them too!). Might just be me, but it feels a little…disrespectful? [Confession: I've never seen a BL episode, so that might change my opinion.]

Oh I totally agree!!! And I wouldn’t find that very encouraging at all (the remark about 300 lb people doing jumping jacks). I have seen some BL episodes and I always thought she was ruder than encouraging. In fact, I’ve been amazed at some of the emotional distress they put people under on that show and it’s no wonder some of them break down and binge on cupcakes.
