Sorry, no smoothie post today. I woke up wanting eggs!
Yesterday was the first 5k in my virtual 5k series that I was actually able to run. I set my expectations kind of on the low side, since lately my running pace even for short distances has been quite slow. So when I checked RunKeeper on my phone at the end of 3.1, I was pleasantly surprised.
It looks like I may have finally broken the 9 minute mile barrier! Even though it wasn’t a true PR, I had a similar sense of victory after seeing my time. I was prepared to look and see that 30 minutes had gone by. Maybe there’s some hope for me yet!
Yesterday also brought with it a new pair of shoes and some CWX compression capris (that are absolutely amazing; once I had them on in the store, I didn’t want to take them off.) I love my Mizuno Wave Ronins, but they’re racing shoes and while they’ve treated me well, I feel like I need something a little more substantial for hitting the trails. I tried on a few different pairs of Mizuno’s at Plateau Runner and settled on the Enigmas after a few test runs with different lacing techniques around the parking lot. They are a neutral shoe and they feel perfect for my lopsided feet.
Today is supposed to be my rest day (only yoga allowed!) but I’m so tempted to take these bad boys out. I’m being good! I’m being good. I’m being good. I’m being good. I… need to talk about something else.
There has been a lot of great stuff going on in the blogging world this week and a lot of posts that have stuck out for me. |First one is from Laura at Mommy Run Fast: The Pursuit of Superwoman. This one really stuck out for me because trying to do it all is a trap I often find myself stuck in. I definitely catch myself comparing myself to others and it’s in everyone’s greatest good to put that energy into celebrating their own individual strengths.
Tina Reale wrote about dealing with binge eating and the emotions that go with in a different way than I think many of us look at it: Avoiding Temptation.
We got out Team Athena blog up and running again with a new look and new posts! This week, we have posts about figuring out how many calories to eat and also why whole grains are so great. In case you didn’t know, Team Athena is the name of my weight loss and fitness groups. People work harder in a team environment because they know people are counting on them to show up so I figure, why not use that to keep people accountable to their goals, right?
I wrote a guest post over at Urban in Suburbia this week about what I’ve learned about running since fracturing my foot and Fit Approach posted my ‘aha’ moment.
Oh yeah, and Amy at Writing While Running impressed the hell out of me with her Austin Marathon Race Recap. I’m all about reading marathon recaps right now. I am not sure if this is preparation or a good way to scare the shit out of myself, I guess depending on the recap, but any time I see a marathon recap posted in my Girls Gone Sporty team group or Fit Approach group, I’m all over it like a bad rash.
What’s been your favorite blog post(s) to read this week? Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Thanks so much
Marathons are both ridiculously hard and gratifying at the exact same time. I am going to answer your question soon on my blog. Do a review soon of the WaveRonins, I love the Wave Riders and Inspires! You posts have definitely been cracking me up this week
Awesome job with the 5K! And new shoes!? YES!
Wow, 249 feet gained in a 5k is kind of hilly! Or at least it would be for me
.
I had a raging weekend – two days packed full of math!! That’s midterm week for you…
I know you shouldn’t judge a shoe based on looks, but those are some pretty awesome colors.
Thanks! I totally judge by looks – I can’t help it. I love colorful shoes! Good luck on your midterms!
